SAP - Robotic Process Automation

Robotic process automation (RPA) is currently the hot topic in outsourcing. Whether an organization’s driver is the very significant cost reductions, the relatively discreet (and therefore low-risk) implementations or the markedly improved quality, the impact of this new generation of capability is already being felt by the first sectors adopting the new technology. 

RPA is as simple — and powerful — as it sounds. It enables organizations with tools to create their software robots to automate any business process. The "bots" are configurable software set up to perform the tasks which can be assigned and controlled.

Think of them as a digital workforce. They can interact with any system or application the same way users do. Bots can also be cloned. By monitoring how they are working companies can adjust and scale as they see fit. 

Robotic automation is hugely attractive to the utility industry for two key reasons. Firstly the huge volume of transactions – one organization can receive well over 10 thousands of meter readings a year from its agents and customers – and this volume of data sent, combined with the complexity of the marketplace, inevitably requires large operations teams to manage exceptions. Secondly, a large number of processes are repetitive and prone to human error. With the application of some simple business rules, these processes can be efficiently completed utilizing RPA.

Although the opportunity for automation within the utility industry has traditionally been considered as limited to the back office (such as billing), the opportunities for automating some processes that are much closer to the customer are increasingly being appreciated.

We are looking for an intern the investigate the possibilities of RPA combined with SAP, the #1 choice for Utility companies. Together with the intern, we will define a standard business process, and from there create a design document and a Proof of Concept which can be shown to clients in the Netherlands.

The intern will work with different stakeholders within and outside of Accenture to obtain the required information.
