You will have a unique position to contribute to our purpose. All we ask from you is to use your Superpowers and share your energy to help us achieve our goal.
Your assignment
The design of a wind farm consists of multiple interconnected components that need to be considered as an integrated part within the business case in order to evaluate the financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the project. The foundation that supports the wind turbines in an offshore environment is one these main components and it accounts for about 10-20% of the total capital invested in a project. The selection of the appropriate foundation type affects this part of the Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and is dependent on the site-specific characteristics and on the type of Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) selected. Furthermore, the manufacturing, transportation and installation processes of the foundation structures have a significant CAPEX contribution.
System Design is developing cutting edge solutions for wind farm design taking into consideration foundation models and their associated logistics models within each business case evaluation. As Vattenfall is looking into deeper water depths and sites with varying characteristics for developing wind farms, the System Design software suite needs to account for the next generation of foundation types such as floating structures and XXL monopiles. This internship will look into expanding the foundation models included in the System Design software package and/or into improving the currently implemented models.
The successful candidate will be part of the System Design team within the Offshore Wind Business Unit. The following topics will be part of the assignment:
· Development of offshore wind turbine foundation models, such as floating and monopile structures
· Development of accompanying logistics (manufacturing, transportations & installation, etc.) models for each foundation type
· Master Student in Engineering with knowledge or strong interest in Offshore Wind and Renewable Energy
· Excellent communication skills (English)
· Knowledge of Matlab and/or Python is a great advantage
· You are proactive, result driven, interested in learning new things
You get to be part of a fun, informal and diverse working environment. You will get experience in working with the highly skilled System Design team and you will contribute in finding and developing cutting-edge solutions. Your preferred office location will be Amsterdam.
