There are many opportunities for you to push on with your own development: conferences, education, workshops, coaching, intervision, mentoring and job switching. You have a big say in the speed and direction of your own development.
Informatie
TNO is an independent research organisation whose expertise and research make an important contribution to the competitiveness of companies and organisations, to the economy and to the quality of society as a whole. Innovation with purpose is what TNO stands for. We develop knowledge not for its own sake but for practical application. To create new products that make life more pleasant and valuable and help companies innovate. To find creative answers to the questions posed by society. We work for a variety of customers: governments, the SME sector, large companies, service providers and non-governmental organisations. Working together on new knowledge, better products and clear recommendations for policy and processes. In everything we do, impact is the key. Our product and process innovations and recommendations are only worth something if our customers can use them to boost their competitiveness.
Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science with knowledge and skills of Networking, Statistics and Matlab. Other competencies we look for in you are communication skills, independence and perseverance.
The Network Technologies department of TNO researches new access network technologies and connectivity issues. The main focus of our connectivity research is on (control-plane and data-plane) protocols and mechanisms that may be positioned in the data link and network layer of the OSI model (layers 2 and 3). This knowledge is applicable to a wide range of environments, such as telecommunication (operator networks), military, healthcare, energy and consumers (consumer networks). You will work in an inspiring environment of highly skilled and approachable applied scientists and consultants, and get a taste of what it means to be a contract researcher in dynamic commercial markets. Within the expertise area Technical Sciences we are looking for a Master student in his last phase of study, who is motivated to start his graduation project with us. We dedicate our work to achieving technological breakthroughs in order to create innovations in industry and society. As part of a large EU-funded project Figaro (http://www.ict-figaro.eu/) ,TNO is at present working in the area of interconnected and federated home networks. The need for home network to support new broadband services such as IPTV, IP telephony, and gaming have opened a new era for telecommunication networks across the world. Since the home network plays the role of the critical "last mile" access on the Internet, end-to-end service delivery is particularly susceptible to the stochastic nature of the home network. What frequently happens is that different sources of competing traffic often result in disruptions. Therefore, our vision is that aside from monitoring and characterizing the home network, the insightful prediction of in-home traffic behaviour in terms of its temporal evolution is of exceptional significance for the success of resource management in the home network. Initially we have propsed to use Markov transition matrix as the traffic prediction model, in which different Markov states are represented by corresponding entropy states of traffic rates obtained from measurement. Initial experiment with this model were successful, but still serious adaptation of this model and its parameters is needed. For this, we have an extended data set available. One of the key factors to be determined is the right entropy period. As soon as entropy period ia approximated, it is used for calculate the entropy distribution. The distribution will be used to construct the Markov chain exhibiting the home network traffic transition pattern. The second task is a case study discussing whether one should normalize entropy samples with the max calculated entropy value. Out-of-box thinking is a plus for this case study. If time permits, the data set may be extended by performing measurements in a number of people's homes. This work shall generate a scientific publication.? You are expected to critically study the theory and to make flexible use of the measurement data provided to you. We'd love to see your ambition and creativity thrive. Furthermore, strong analytical ability and a broad means to playing with statistics are much appreciated.
