Within this context your challenge will be to help the team within Philips Research to develop a prototype for using USB devices over Wi-Fi, enabling for example the use of USB mass storage devices on Android smartphones without the hassle of using cables.
Your responsibilities
As part of your assignment you will become responsible for the design, analysis and development of prototyping software on Android devices to help with the realization of a next generation wireless connectivity standard.
Activities are likely to include:
•Creating a project plan
•Developing software architecture suitable for integration with Android
•Throughput analysis of the proposed solution w.r.t. Wi-Fi data transfer
•Implementing and testing the developed software and creating a document describing the results.
This may be changed in accordance with any particular internship requirements you may have from your study.
The main purpose of the assignment is to analyze and develop a prototype based on the media agnostic USB specification in software on a Wi-Fi direct device.
Further contents of the assignment and other details will be discussed in due time.
Your assignment will be done in the Connected Solutions department of Philips Research. This department works on developing meaningful applications and services by connecting devices ranging from sensors to smartphones to the Internet and to each other. This includes working on new connectivity standards in the Wi-Fi Alliance www.wi-fi.org. For this internship you will be joining a project of about 5 professionals working in the area of wireless connectivity, one of which will be your main supervisor with which you will have regular meetings and which will guide you in your tasks. There is also a possibility of collaborating with other students. The assignment is suitable for a duo internship.
We offer you a chance to take part of developing next generation wireless connectivity solutions and standards, and provide you with a challenging learning experience related to software development, and with an opportunity to learn the inner workings of the Android Operating System in detail.
