Internship Pricing & Valuation

Do you have strong programming skills and genuine interest in Finance? Are you searching for work experience through an exciting and challenging internship (Bachelor / Master level)? Pricing and Valuation Team, part of Data Management department, is looking for highly ambitious and self-starting individual to support our efforts to increase efficiency of our processes and to participate in (ad-hoc) assignments and projects.

Your department

We are responsible for pricing and valuation of all the instruments traded for mutual funds and clients of NN Investment Partners. External suppliers like Bloomberg and Reuters provide daily prices of approximately 20 000 instruments that are used, after validation, in NAV calculation, reporting, and portfolio management. In addition, there is a large number of OTC derivatives that are valued by internal systems or in-house created models. The team works closely together with number of departments (Investment Engine, Trading, Fund accounting, Risk) in order to ensure the availability of timely and proper valuations to the organization and its clients. This happens in an ongoing process to find ways to improve quality and/or service and to maintain or increase control.

 

Assignment profile

As part of your internship you will work on several challenging assignments:

  • Coding, testing, and maintaining an existing in-house developed internal tools and business applications in VBA/Access/SQL Server, as well as generating technical and user documentation
  • Remediating spreadsheets developed by business users to reduce process and spreadsheet risk, improve automation and add efficiency
  • Performing data collection, entry, and analysis from various data sources
About you

An ideal candidate is also one who is versatile and has a diverse scope of knowledge on various technologies. You must not only be able to work on your own, but also be creative by giving insight and ideas for new features and aim for the best and not be satisfied with the minimum. While programming will be the bulk of your work, we expect you to add value beyond programming and help shape the direction of our department. Some of the characteristics we look for are:

  • Highly motivated self-starter who can work independently
  • Determined and perfectionist, quitting is not a word in your vocabulary
  • Thirsty for knowledge and devising new processes, eager to learn, create and innovate
  • Highly effective and efficient, no wasting time! Focused on getting stuff done yesterday
  • Must be detail oriented and capable of “reading in between the lines,” looking beyond the obvious
  • Strong attention to details and desire to making things look nice

In addition, you are/have:

  • Proficient in VBA/Access/SQL (other programming languages are a plus)
  • A recent graduate or in the end-stage of your studies
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or similar
  • Available for a period of 6 months
  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written)
  • Interest in financial markets and investments
