Power Climate Smarter living – that’s our purpose. We are looking for the brightest students to make this happen. Together you will contribute to a fossil free future. You will have a unique position to contribute to our purpose. All we ask from you is to use your Superpowers and share your energy to help us achieve our goal.
Thesis project/ Internship
The Data center & Cloud operations team at Vattenfall is responsible for all infrastructure and cloud based operations. Through a strategic alliance with Microsoft, we use Azure for all cloud-based activities.
Vattenfall IT has opted for a “cloud first” strategy, meaning that we aspire to host our applications in the cloud in the largest possible extent. This is a true challenge due to laws, regulations and other critical factors. As a result of this, a fair amount of our applications are still running in our own datacenters. We are however trying to optimize our operations through an initiative in which we are consolidating our datacenters. At this very moment, we’ve recently finished building a brand new datacenter in Sweden! Here is where you come in to the picture.
With the just finalized construction of our new data center in mind, we would like to offer an internship where you will develop a model that predicts the capacity requirements for our datacenters based on data. This concerns capacity for compute, storage and network but also cooling and power consumption. First development on this model has been done in 2021 by a colleague Data science master colleague from the University of Amsterdam. We would like you to bring this to the next level.
We offer a super fun internship in a dynamic environment, where you can learn a lot and receive feedback from a committed team. Doing an internship at Vattenfall means getting better at what you do. In addition, you really get to know Vattenfall. Your internship is not only about gaining applied knowledge and practical experience, but also about expanding your network. We offer you an internship compensation of EUR 500,- a month based on a full-time internship.
You will work for the Vattenfall IT data center team. This team consists of several enthusiastic colleagues working in various countries (including Sweden, Germany, Poland and of course the Netherlands). The team aims to provide good, stable infrastructure services for both our IT colleagues and the business. Our ambition is to work on new “state of the art” data centers, where you can contribute.
We are looking for a student to join our journey towards a fossil free future. You also identify yourself with our principles: active, open, positive and safe.
You would like to independently develop a concrete application in an international organization that contributes to making our new data centers one of the most (energy) efficient in our industry. Your profile consists of the following:
- Interested in DevOps-based operational management of large IT environments
- Skills experience with data analysis, resource management of large IT environments
- You are proactive, result driven, interested in learning new things
You are available for at least 3 months to be part of our fun, international team in Amsterdam. Start date of the internship: February 2022.
We have been electrifying industries, powering homes and transforming life through innovation and collaboration for more than 100 years. Empowered by our goal, we are determined to enable fossil free living within one generation. To succeed we, as one of Europe’s leading energy companies, must be fossil-free ourselves.
But that’s not enough. That’s why we are looking beyond our own industry, to see where we can really make a difference. Join us in our journey towards a fossil-free life within one generation. Want to learn more about what we do? Visit www.vattenfall.com.
