Internship optimising in Sales Position

Markets is the Business Area where all asset optimisation and trading activities are centralized for the Vattenfall Group. Our activities are multi-site located across Europe with almost 700 professionals working in Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, and Poland. We trade the full range of energy commodities such as electricity, gas, oil, coal, freight, renewable energies and emissions, take responsibility for a diversified sourcing of power, fuels and carbon credits and optimize the running and hedging of Vattenfall’s generation assets. These efforts are the basis for maximum profitability and continuous business growth.

For our office in Amsterdam we are looking for an enthusiastic Intern for the duration of 6 months within our Transaction & Position Management Team. You can start directly if that fits your schedule.

The department Transaction & Position Management is responsible for the processes and systems that manage the Sales and Asset Positions in the Trade system. The team consists of 17 qualified people.

Your role as an intern

As an intern you are not just supposed to observe our daily business, but rather we give you the chance to work on various projects and really have a role within the team. The best way to discover the business, is to do it!

As a script optimising intern you are responsible for efficiency improvements of our processes. In our department we run a lot of processes. This includes processes for booking and adjusting the Sales position, for processing market data, for calculating the actuals position, for creating reports etc. At the moment some steps in these processes are not efficient; they take some manual steps, they are not clearly documented, they are not atsndardised, etc. Your task will be to find out how the processes can be made more efficient and to implement the improvements.

Your tasks will be: 

• Take part in running the operational processes to be able to understand them and find improvements areas.
• Talking to others to get their input on improvement area’s.
• Implementing the improvements.

This can be done by:

• Adjusting existing scripts
• Adding automated steps to processes
• Developing small new scripts
• The scripting is done in VBA or in GEN
• Provide insight in the efficiency improvements of the implemented changes
• Close cooperation with the IT department. If you develop new scripts they will need to approve it
• Writing documentation on the functionality of ours scripts to enable It developers in the future to better understand what our scripts do
